By activating this service, the .tw/.台灣 domain name registry (TWNIC) will enforce restrictions on modification and deletion permissions for your domain name. Prevents unauthorized changes
Enabling “.tw Domain Name Registry Lock Service” mainly prevents unauthorized changes of domain name servers by employees or third-parties; it can effectively protect domain names from the risk of being modified, transferred or deleted maliciously by malicious parties.
Provides high-strength security protection for domain names
Only after passing the rigorous identity verification from the domain name management terminal, which is the registry TWNIC, can operations such as “information changes”, “accept registry transfer” and “domain name deletion” be performed for domain names.
Maintains stability of services related to domain names
Application levels of domain names extends to websites, E-mail addresses and Internet marketing, etc., it has the image of representing identities online. Modifications of domain names need to be authorized to maintain the stability of application operations effectively, and reduce business operation failures due to domain name setting issues (excluding manual setting errors of authorized personnel), or even damaging images.
Function Introduction
Domain name lock
Three statuses will be added to your domain name status after enabling domain name registry lock and completing the service application. The following operations related to domain names will be prohibited under the locked status:
- serverUpdateProhibited (prohibits the changing of registration data or Name Server of domain name)
- serverTransferProhibited (prohibits the transfer of Registrar)
- serverDeleteProhibited (prohibits deletion).
Unlock temporarily
- If there is the need to change the registration data of the domain name or the need to change the DNS(Name Server) while the service is activated, applications can be made online directly on the website of this service through Service Manager, and TWNIC will “unlock” the status after verifying the service identity.
- You can select an unlock duration based on your operational needs: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, or 48 hours per session. If you need a longer unlock period or prefer to keep the domain unlocked during the service activation period, you can choose “Do not lock for now” to maintain the unlocked status until you manually relock it.
- After it is unlocked, you can go to the website of the Registrar to change the information related to the domain name, change the Name Server or transfer the Registrar, etc.
Relocking
If you have completed the operation or do not want to unlock during the unlock period, you can complete email authentication and mobile phone verification on Service Manager to set to relock immediately.
Real-time notification
- Each time operations such as unlocking / locking / changing the Service Manager are performed, the system will send a notice to another Service Manager and the domain name registrant to reduce the risk of manipulating and hijacking domain names without authorization by resigned employees or malicious persons.
- Records all locking and unlocking change records so that the Service Manager and Registrant can grasp the domain name statuses in real-time and make immediate responses.
Application Instructions
Application qualifications
- Current .tw/.台灣 domain name registrants who have completed payment and with at least 90 days or more before the expiration date.
- Accepting applications from legal establishment of companies/organizations/individuals at home and abroad.
- Applications are not accepted from abnormal domain name procedures such as domain name is under dispute resolution process/domain names reported to have false registration information, improper use/domain name is pending transfer to another registrar, etc.
Application process
- Step1: To apply for this service, click “Apply ” on this website or contact your domain registrar for assistance. After submitting your application, TWNIC will review your eligibility and send a confirmation email to ensure that the Registrant agrees to apply for this service.
- Step2: Provide 1-2 of Service Manager information, and complete the
and Two-factor authentication verification of that Service Manager. This Service Manager will have permissions to perform functions such as service unlocking, locking and service record querying in the future. - Step3: Download the service application form and have it stamped/signed by the registrant.
- Step4: Upload the service application form and the Registrant's identity document for document review.
- Step5: Payment will be notified after the documents are reviewed and approved.
- Step6: The .tw domain name registry lock will be enabled and locked.
Application fee
- The application fee is NTD 6,000/year for each domain name application, and a maximum of 10 years can be applied. This includes service application and activation, temporary unlocking, relocking and not locking for now during the service period.
- TWNIC offers the 「2025 .tw Domain Protection Integrated Services Premium Project」. The domain name completes a new application for the <.tw Domain Name Registry Lock Service> service (based on the payment time) during the project period before 23:59 on December 31, 2025 (Taipei time) the service promotion project discount price is NT$4,800/first year (original price NT$6,000/year), and can apply for the < .tw Green Domain Name Verified Service> for free during the project period.

A. The .tw Domain Name Registry Lock is to protect domain names from unauthorized changes, therefore, after the service is applied and enabled, the domain name status will be locked and cannot be changed. However, when companies need to change DNS records, they simply have to unlock the service through Service Manager, and go to the registrar of the domain name to change the relevant information during the unlocked period. They will not be affected.

- If information was changed by an authorized Service Manager due to failure to propose changes to the Service Manager immediately, please bear the responsibility yourself and it has nothing to do with TWNIC/registrar.
- This service is charged by year; once payment is made and the service is activated, refunds may not be requested for any reason unless otherwise stipulated by law.
- If the domain name expired and was not renewed, or the domain name violated related regulations, such as: Reported to have false registration/abuse/phishing/infringement, etc., or that the domain name involvement in a dispute resolution process (including but not limited to the reasons above), and the domain name was deleted or transferred the ownership as a result, this service will also become invalid. If the service period has not expired, you may not request for a refund for the unused service years, nor transfer the service to other domain names.
- If there are information security incidents that can be attributed to the Registrant during the service activation period, such as: Data leaks, hacker thefts, or deliberate operations by resigned employees, etc., that involve illegal and infringement activities and caused the service to become invalid, it is not within the scope of protection of this service. Please bear the responsibility yourself.
- If it is found that the domain name registrant has violated regulations related to the registration of the domain name or the relevant rules listed for this service while the service is active, TWNIC has the right to cancel the application for this service. The registrant shall bear full responsibility and must not object. If this results in the loss of rights or interests for the registrant or others, the registrant shall be held accountable.
- Anyone who applied for this service is viewed as acknowledging and agreeing to the various service descriptions and relevant regulations of this service. If there are changes in the regulations of this service, please subject to the latest announcement of this website. TWNIC reserves the right of final interpretation and modification of all relevant contents and regulations.
